So many millennials are delaying the decision to have kids forever and ever because most of us want to be responsible parents and we have that fear of being not able to provide for our kids. Will you be able to live on one income while the child is too small and requires 100% of your time? Plus, all those sad but true scenarios when moms have to provide for their children alone… But is it really so unrealistic to be a successful stay at home mom and make money from home? If you’ve never been on my site, it’s worth mentioning that I’m a full-time blogger and I work from home. I started part-time though and within 10 months I was able to quit my day job. I make about $6000 per month blogging and you can learn how exactly I make this money in my Income and Traffic Report.
Don’t leave the page just yet, I’m not going to advocate here that blogging is for everyone and that you should follow this path. There are so many other ways to make money from home and I tried some of them before starting a blog. So I know what I’m talking about!
You will not find in this post any false recommendations promising that you’ll make millions of dollars in a few months working from home. I made a list of realistic and proven ways to make money at home – enough to pay your monthly bills, not to be worried about your credits and some of these suggestions have a potential of becoming a full-time income.

How can I make Money as a Stay at Home Mom?
For some of these ways to make money you will need only a laptop and can be location-independent. For others, you’ll have to be physically in a particular locale.
You can choose whatever fits you better or even try several money-making strategies at once. The most important is your mindset. Are you the person who prefers to blame everyone and everything for your financial problems? Or are you ready to just start doing everything possible to make some extra money?
I ranked these money making opportunities according to my personal preferences. Some people would enjoy data entry, others would prefer losing weight for money or babysitting. I don’t insist on this order, it’s my subjecting ranking, let me know in the comments if you find my TOP-5 jobs interesting too 🙂
23. Teach English over Skype with VIPKid
If you have any “formal” or “informal” teaching experience such as mentoring, tutoring, coaching, or alternative education plus a bachelor’s degree in the US or Canada under your belt, you may qualify to tutor Chinese children in the English language with VIPKid. You can make up to $22 hourly.
I know that most American stay at home moms who work for VipKid, offer classes in the morning before their kids even wake up (they can do it because of the timezone difference).

22. Other Ways to Make Money Teaching or Tutoring
Online education is not an unusual thing nowadays, even dissertations are written online, so if you are interested in pursuing a career in online educations, there are many options – from private Skype tutoring to full-time professor jobs in universities with big names.
To start with, you can check sites like Chegg Tutors (on average you can get about $20 per hour).
21. Search Engine Evaluator (assessor) or Social Media Moderator
Online giants like Google, Yahoo, Bing have thousands of algorithms to define the search results, but they still need a human evaluation of the quality of their search results.
But don’t try to contact search giants directly for these jobs. They partner with external agencies, which provide training to evaluators and officially you don’t work for Google, Yahoo or Facebook, you work for one of these three recruiting companies:
- Leapforce
- LionBridge
- Appen
Be prepared to wait at least 1 month after you apply for a job like this, the hiring process is not fast at all.
20. Best Ways to Make Money in Data Entry positions
Most probably you will be offered to sign a contract with the company (which is good for protection of both sides).

19. Ways to Make Money as a Freelancer
If you have never done any freelance jobs, it doesn’t mean that you don’t already have the necessary skills for some jobs! Just check the freelance sites below, and you’ll definitely find something that you can do as a part-time or even full-time income source.
As a native speaker of English language, you are always in demand for the following jobs – copywriting, translations, proofreading, voiceovers, etc.

Remote call center jobs are available mostly for the US or Canada residents and not for people who live overseas. More than 50 companies with open positions in call centers can be easily googled, but I might make a separate post with the full list of these call centers. Here I’ll just name a few companies for you to check.

- Amazon – full-time and part-time customer service positions for work from home. By the way, Amazon just announced that they are planning to hire 5000 part-time employees to work from home in 2017, so if you are interested, check their site from time to time for new openings.
16. Legitimate Ways to Make Money as a Captioner
Captioning is creating a transcription for TV or YouTube videos. The most important skill for a captioner is typing – you need to be fast enough and make minimum mistakes.
One of the most known companies offering work to captioners is Rev. You will work for them as a freelancer and receive payments via PayPal weekly. You can make around $50 per day, there is no minimum or maximum because it depends on your efficiency and on the workflow on each particular day.

This is one of those easy ways to make money fast and without any initial investment except your time. Yes, I mean can start working almost immediately and get regular payments!

14. Become a website tester and get up to $30 per hour!
Website testers usually work with a microphone and web camera (or the default camera in your laptop). You will be asked to test new sites or applications, make live comments while testing and record them for the employer to make their conclusions regarding the functionality of their site later.
The average payment for these jobs is about $10 per test and knowing that each test takes 10-20 minutes, you will find this evaluation fair enough.

Is there anyone who doesn’t enjoy wanting videos or movies? If you are one of these rare people, the service I’m going to talk about can still help you make extra cash.
It’s Swagbucks – a platform that pays you for various activities online, including watching YouTube Videos, giving your feedback on ads, conducting surveys. Earnings depend on how many tasks you complete per month, but I know that you can easily make extra $150- $200 a month with Swagbucks! They send you the payouts via PayPal.

On platforms like Rover you can find dog owners who need your help as a dog walkers. With time you’ll get reviews and this can help you build a solid group of customers and walk their dogs all together for a better income.

If you are not much of a dog person, but you love children, consider making some extra money by babysitting services. On sites like Care.com you will find a lot of parents looking for a babysitter.
9. Lead walking tours on Viator
If you live in a popular touristic destination, think about creating walking tours on Viator – it’s one of the largest platforms for tour operators in the world. To get your first reviews, consider making 2-3 free tours.
8. Ways to make money from home if you have a medical degree
Amphion Medical
Their work at home medical coders may earn around $25 hourly, according to Glassdoor. For this position though, at least one-year prior experience and certification are required.

This company is looking for work at home registered nurses for a 24×7 telephone support services, including nurse triage, medical decision support, Healthcare support programs and others. Pay is around $25 an hour.

You need to be good at photography to make money on it. But if you are, you can either be a private photographer or sell your photos on ShutterStock or iStockPhoto and many other stock sites.
6. Ways to make money using your writing skills
Scribie – This company offers only freelance transcriber jobs with flexible hours. The rate of pay is $5 to $20 per audio hour, i.e., $0.5 to $2 for a 6-minute audio file. If you have excellent typing skills and have no problem with comprehension of American/British/Australian/Indian accents, you should definitely give it a try!

American Journal Experts – You can regularly check new openings for editors and also translators on this company’s career page. Depending on the position, you can get up to $20 an hour, according to what their employees are sharing on company’s Glassdoor page.
Book in a Box – The types of work offered by this company are similar to the previous – they are looking for proofreaders, editors, book jacket designers. The remote positions that are listed on their site usually are paid over $20 an hour (up to $50 an hour for some jobs). Look for their open work at home positions here.
Language Services Associates – This company hires virtual interpreters, translators, and per Glassdoor, pays around $20 an hour for these positions. Check out their site and positions here.
5. Rent Your Spare Bedroom on Airbnb
If you have a spare room, tree house, boat, etc., you might be interested in making extra money on Airbnb renting it out. This can be particularly profitable if you live in a popular destination for tourists, or if some high-demand events happen in your locale (concerts, sporting events, festivals, conferences, etc.).

4. Make money on Pinterest with Affiliate links
You don’t necessarily need to have a blog to make money with affiliate marketing. Did you know that since 2017 Pinterest allows you to create pins with links going directly to your affiliate offers? I wrote a detailed post about the entire process of making money on Pinterest with affiliate links.
I can give you a hint about the affiliate networks in which I am registered and which bring me the most online income:

If you are good in research, try to apply for jobs on Wonder Researcher. This company recruits online researchers for doing general research, paying $15-25/hour depending on the topic of research and on how fast you complete the task. You’ll be asked to pass an assessment to join the team of researchers (don’t worry, it’s just 4 questions and will take you max 10 min), within the next 7 days indicating whether you’ve been advanced to the next stage of the process.
