When I was a kid I loved going camping with my family. We would spend our days outside and make s’mores and hot dogs on sticks over the open fire. My favorite part of the camping trip was the pie iron. It was a portable oven that you could take with you when you went hiking or to the beach. I would pack a big pot and fill it with water, add some rice, and place the pie iron on top of it. When we were done cooking, I would take out the pie iron and let it cool down for about five minutes before taking it apart.

If you are planning a sleeping-out adventure, you should definitely pack a pie iron. It’s my personal favorite! It’s small, easy to store, and is a perfect way to cook a wide variety of food options.
