How do you do Keto on a budget?

If you are on a weight loss journey, then you might have heard or considered doing a Keto diet. To put it simply, keto is a low-carb, high-fat diet that is designed to burn fat and eliminate almost all carbs which may help many people to lose pounds. Aside from weight loss, there are also a number of benefits a keto diet can offer. One is that it is claimed that going on a keto diet may boost one’s heart health and protect brain function. It can also help control blood sugar levels and reduces the risk of certain cancers.

Generally, you should be able to save more than usual when you are on a keto diet because there will be certain foods that you need to stay away from. But if you really want to save your pocket, here are some tips on how you can successfully do Keto on a budget:

  • Shop locally – most stores or local farmer markets tend to sell meat, vegetables, dairy, and egg at a very cheap price.
  • Buy in bulk
  • Meal prep in advance – this strategy will save you time and money because you already have meals to eat for the whole week.
  • Choose frozen over fresh – most frozen fruits and vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and berries are more affordable as opposed to fresh ones. What’s more is that they will last a lot longer as they will stay refrigerated.
  • Don’t mind the fancy and packed keto foods – you will most likely see some meal replacement bars that are advertised to be keto-friendly. However, you can survive without those. They are definitely more expensive and most probably less fulfilling once you consume it.

How can I get low carbs for cheap?

If you are just starting your keto diet plan, then you may need a little bit of help on which type of foods and products you should get. A tip for a low-carb meal is to add inexpensive greens like cabbage, frozen spinach, or chopped kale. Another method is to swap noodles for zucchini or carrots which are inexpensive. Soups and stews are also a great way to keep yourself full without adding carbs or breaking the bank.

Other keto grocery lists can seem overwhelming especially if you are on a strict budget. However, you do not need to worry because I have compiled various budget-friendly low-carb staples that you can add to your keto grocery list:
