Here is my top list of profitable small business ideas from home that you can start in 2023. So you have finally taken a big leap and decided to quit corporate life and focus more on your own growth. Or maybe the last couple of years when the pandemic changed our lives so much, something clicked for you and you realized that you want to start your own business. Or you might be looking for a way to bring extra income in your free time, without having to quit your day job.

One way or another, you won’t regret it because everything you will learn through this process will stay with you. It’s your knowledge, skills and experience that you gain while building a small business.

And it’s not that hard in today’s digital age where everything is online and can be done from the comfort of your home.

Reasons Why You Should Start Your Home Business

3. Flexibility

If you are someone who values your own time, then working your own hours may just be perfect for you. And working from home will give you that flexibility. You can choose to work as early as 6 am or as late as 3 pm. If you are a night owl, then you could even start at 7 pm! I mean, as long as you get the job done, right?

2. You Choose The People You Work With

This is if you have more than enough resources already to bring in new people to work for you and build your own team. Unlike when working in an office where you truly have to work with people you don’t like, having your own business will give you the freedom on who to hire (and fire). You will be able to choose people whom you are comfortable to work with and whom you are sure to grow with.

1. You Won’t Feel Like You Are Working

Any work that you absolutely enjoy doing won’t feel like “work” at all. Gone are days when you have to force yourself to get out of bed and dread the rest of the day. You won’t have to force yourself into doing something that you really have no passion for.

Instead, when you have your own business (that you actually love), you will be able to continuously invest in yourself and your growth while following your passion – which does not feel like a chore at all.

9. Content Writer

Have you ever read a piece of article from the internet and thought, “I wish I wrote that” or “I could write something like that”? If that is the case, then you should definitely start your career as an online content writer. If you have a passion for writing then this path is for you.

You can take your first step by taking on freelance writing gigs you can find on Fiverr, Upwork, or by promoting yourself on online Facebook groups for bloggers and website owners. There you will meet new and potential clients, trust me, as a full-time blogger, I am one of those always looking for someone could help me with content. There is always a huge demand for good content writers.

And the best part of it all? You can work from anywhere in the world or even in the comfort of your own room wearing your pajamas!

8. eCommerce

eCommerce business has a huge potential in our day and age. This market had a huge growth spike in 2020, the first year of the pandemic. You can set up an online store to sell your handmade products or maybe an online thrift store where you can sell clothes, small home decor items and so much more.

Or you could look into dropshipping! This is a type of eCommerce in which you won’t have to store the product to sell. You will purchase products from a third-party supplier and then the supplier ships the items directly to the customer. In this case, you just act as a middle-man, your role is very hassle-free.

What you do need is to create your own brand that people will remember and come back to your website for more products.

7. Blogging

Now, I am a full-time blogger and when I started about 4 years ago, even back then I heard voices that it was too late too start. And here I am, making multiple 6-figure income from home. So if you ask me, oh no, blogging is not dead and will not be in the future!

People will rely on information available online more an more in the future, and as a blogger you can provide them this information. So blogging is here to stay! And if you love writing or you are an expert in a certain niche, then blogging is a great option if you are looking for a passive income.

As you grow your blog and readership, you will be able to monetize your blog in different ways:

  • Brand sponsorships: Get paid to promote a brand and reach an even larger audience.
  • Display ads: Display ads can vary from pay-per-click ads to pay-per-view ads. But either way, both are a great source of passive and extra income.
  • Affiliate marketing: Promote a company or brand’s products and through a unique code or link, you will be able to earn commissions.

6. Pinterest Management Agency

I definitely recommend thinking about this option. You could become a Pinterest account manager if you enjoy scrolling through the platform and if you have a good understanding of how it works.

You will be in charge of managing and growing Pinterest accounts for clients. You see, bloggers and even large corporations are using Pinterest as a high-quality traffic source, and this position is in high demand right now. And when you have enough resources, you can start your own Pinterest Management Agency where you can build a team of Pinterest Marketing experts!

No, managing a Pinterest account doesn’t mean just mindlessly posting pictures. You’ll also have to keep up with the latest trends and seasonal content. And you should know about any changes in the Pinterest algorithm.

5. Social Media Management Agency

Most of us spend a ton of time on social media, why not make a business out of it? There are not many businesses left that don’t need to be present on social media. Even your local pizzeria probably is killing it on Instagram or Facebook to get good reviews and high engagement.

As every business needs to be on social media, they all need someone to help them manage their social media channels. As a social media manager, you will be in charge of creating images and posts, replying to comments and private messages, and more! So, you will have to know and be up-to-date with online trends.

To start this business, you don’t need to have a college degree, you don’t need to show your face on camera, and you can totally do it from home at flexible hours. You can find clients even by talking to your local small business owners. Many will have a Facebook or an Insta page that hasn’t been updated for 2 years, and they will most likely be happy to outsource their social media channels.

You can offer packages to manage several social media channels for them, that would increase your monthly income from each client. You could easily charge a $1000 a month if you include several social media channels in the package for the same client.

And when you are just starting, you could offer your services for free the first month, in exchange for a testimonial. You will be surprised how easy and fast you can build your portfolio that way, and when you come to your new potential clients next month, you’ll already have something to impress them.

4. Selling Online Courses

eLearning and acquiring new skills online has become the new standard. A lot of traditional educational institutions were forced to transition to online classes during the pandemic. So more and more people are getting used to learning online. If you are an expert at a certain field or topic, then creating an online course is a big opportunity for you to gain passive income while helping other people!

For example, you can see here in my dashboard, just with my Pinterest SEO Traffic Secrets course I made over $220k in the first year of the pandemic. I’ve shared how I run my online course business in a free masterclass.

When you are selling a course on a certain topic, you also make a name for yourself and establish yourself as an expert in your field! From my experience, it has a snowball effect because you start getting invitations to speak at conferences, summits, to give interviews and participate in events related to your course topic and that in return helps you sell your course to a bigger audience.

And the best thing about this? Once you have created your course, you can sell as many copies as you wish without having to put extra hours of work into it. It’s a very scalable business model. Yes, for some course topics you’ll need to update them but the core content usually will remain the same.

Hey, did you like at least one of these business ideas? Let me know in the comments below which one you fancy the most. Now, done? Great, let’s move to the next idea.

3. Sell Digital products

Selling digital products is a similar game to eCommerce store but all products are made and sold digitally. Selling digital products is a very convenient home business because there really is no need to source suppliers or manage your inventory. Plus, again you can sell as many copies of your digital product as you wish, without any extra production cost.

Some examples of digital products you can sell are:

  • Art prints
  • Fonts
  • Icons
  • Logos
  • Editing presets
  • Software
  • Audio (music, samples, sound effects, etc)
  • Illustrations and animations
  • Ebooks
  • Meal Plans. For example, on my second blog I have a lot of food-related content and in every post that includes Keto recipes I promote my 30-day Keto Mealplan. It’s a low-cost product (I sell it for $14), so it’s common to sell this kind of digital products to cold audience, I don’t even invite users to my email list, I just send them directly to the sales page. This product makes about $200/mo without any paid ads or any maintenance. It doesn’t seem like a lot of money but for something that I had to create once and have been selling hundreds of copies for the last 2 years, I think it’s a great passive income stream.

2. Coaching Business/Agency

If you enjoy working with people 1:1, listening to them and giving personalized advice, then being a coach could be the path for you! Coaches help people in creating career, business or relationship strategies. As a coach, you could work with clients i person, through online tools like Zoom, Skype or even by phone.

Depending on what you specialize in, you can be a…

  • Life coach
  • Personal development coach
  • Career coach
  • Finance coach
  • Relationship coach
  • Family coach
  • And more!

1. Content Creator / Online Influencer

If you like being in front of the camera, you could be a good fit for content creation or being an online influencer.

You can pick one or a few platforms to start creating content: Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are just some of the well-known social media sites.

The good news is that you don’t have to invest a lot of money to get started! All you need is a good camera and excellent lighting to get started. From there, you will be able to talk to your followers or viewers, build a community, get brand sponsorships, do affiliate marketing, and more!

Basically what you do is build your personal brand, your audience and then you can start selling to people who follow you anything – it can be your own products, online courses, even NFTs if you want to be like Gary Vee, – the possibilities are endless!

If you want to grow a Youtube channel with just a few tools and some strategies, I posted a few videos sharing how I’ve grown my channel and how much money I make with it. I will give you links to those videos in the description below.

The Bottom Line

There is absolutely no shame if you feel like office life is not for you. I have been there and look at me now – working from home, gaining passive income, all while making time for my daughter and family. I suggest that you stop procrastinating and start actually building your small business this year!
