Different ways to organize your Pinterest Boards
Let’s be real, pinning images and videos on Pinterest to your boards is quite addicting. I mean, that is the main reason why you use Pinterest anyways, right?
However, if you only constantly pin without any thoughts, and let’s say you want to look back to a specific pin you repinned, you will then realize how messy your Pinterest account is. This is where Pinterest boards come in to make your thousands of pins organized.
1. Categorize your boards per niche or topic
One way to organize your pins and boards is to categorize your boards into different niches or topics. This means that you will not repin a home decor pin or image to a single board with other pins like recipes and business pins.
You would want to make multiple boards for different niches you have on your account or business. This means you will make a “Healthy Recipes” board, and then another board with the name “Home Decor”, and then “Summer Fashion” and more.
2. Include sub-niches
Another great tip for organizing your boards and pins is by including sub-niches or more specific keywords in your boards. So, let’s say you have more than a thousand pins that are related to recipes or cooking, business tips, fashion, home decor, travel, etc.
What you would want to do is to be more specific with the categories for your pins. Sure, you can simply create a board with Recipes in it but it will be much easier to find your boards and pins with specific keywords such as “Keto Recipes”, “Vegan Recipes”, “Dairy-free Recipes”, and the like.
Here’s an example of my boards:
3. Delete or Archive boards
If you have old boards that you do not really use or pin your pins to, then you are free to delete them. However, if you also do not want to delete said boards, then you can easily archive your boards so that it is removed from your profile – but you still have it.
In this post, I talk about how you can delete or archive pins and an in-depth step-by-step tutorial. But if you want a quick overview, here is how you can archive or delete a board on both the Pinterest app and Pinterest browser:
To archive a board:
- Log into your Pinterest account
- Go to your Pinterest profile
- Choose a board you want to archive to open it and click the ellipsis icon next to the board name
- Select Archive
- Click Archive again to confirm
To delete a board:
- Log into your Pinterest account
- Click your profile picture at the top-right corner of your screen to open your profile
- Click the board you want to delete to open it
- Click the three dots icon next to the board name, then select Edit board
- Click Delete at the bottom-left corner, then click Delete forever to confirm
4. Create Secret boards
Now, I can’t blame you if you are a business owner yet you are still tempted to repin or pin some random images just for future use. For example, you have personal pins or images you want to keep but are really not on brand with your business or niche.
Or maybe you want to have a board of a collection of images for your phone and desktop wallpapers. Or maybe you want to create personal boards for inspiration for your future blog posts, product ideas, and more.
If that is the case, you can easily make a Secret board that no one else can see but you! According to Pinterest, Secret Pins and boards will not appear in your home feed, in search, or anywhere else around Pinterest for other Pinterest users to see.
To create a secret board, just toggle the Secret option when you create a new board.
If you want to make an existing board secret, here is how you can do it:
- Log into your Pinterest account, then click your profile picture in the top-right corner of your screen to open your profile
- Click the edit icon in the bottom-right corner of the board you want to make secret
- Scroll down and toggle Keep this board secret
- Click Done
5. Add sections
If you think that adding more separate or individual boards for sub-niches (Keto Recipes, Vegan Recipes, etc.) will still look a bit messy for your account, then you may want to create Pinterest board sections instead!
Organizing your Pinterest boards into sections means that you can have all your pins in one board but you will organize into sections the Pins you save per category.
So, in one board, you can have different sections. For example, your board is named Home Decor and inside that board, you will find different sub niches into sections such as “Christmas Home Decor”, “Thanksgiving Home Decor”, and more.
This is a very quick and hassle-free way for you and other Pinterest users to go through your pins and great ideas. To add a section to a board:
- Log into your Pinterest account
- Go to your Pinterest profile
- Click your board to open it
- Click the plus icon at the bottom of your screen
- Select Section
- Enter a name for your section, then click Add
- Click Organize at the top of your board, then select the Pins you want to move to your section
- Click Move at the top of the page
- Click Save next to the section you want to move your Pins to
6. Merge boards if needed
If you have a list of boards that you think can all just be on the same board, then it is best to move boards or merge them together and have all the pins in one place. When you merge boards on Pinterest, you basically move a board or combine two individual boards and all of their content into one board. You can merge two boards or sections together to keep more of your saved Pins in one place.
But it is also best to note that before you merge a board, you cannot undo a merge – so you really have to be sure if you want to take this step.
In this post, I share with you a step-by-step tutorial on how to merge Pinterest boards and its importance.
There are several more ways to keep your Pinterest account on brand and organized – but the simple step to sort your boards on your profile can already help a lot.
