How To Merge Pinterest Boards: Step by Step

First and foremost, what do you even mean when you want to merge one board to another? In a nutshell, merging different boards mean that you are combining two individual boards and all of their content into one board. You can merge two boards or sections together to keep more of your saved Pins in one place.

Now that that is out of the way, let me tell you the steps on how to merge boards on Pinterest.

Step 1: Pick two boards you want to merge

Choose which two boards you wish to merge first since you can only merge two boards at once. Also, decide which is the “parent board” between the two and which one will be considered a board section. The board that you will be clicking or editing to merge will be the one that will become a section.

Step 2: Select “Merge”

Click a board to open it, then click the three dots icon next to your board name. A dropdown option will appear and just select “Merge”.

Step 3: Pick the Parent Board

After, you should be seeing a list of the boards that you will merge it with. Again, do note that the board you will merge it into will become the parent board and the current one you are editing will become a section of that board.

You will see another popup and just click “Merge” again and you are good to go. The merged board will show as a section on the other board.

Also note that According to Pinterest, before you merge a board, you must be aware that:

  • When you merge a board into another board, the followers of the merged board will not transfer to the new board
  • If you merge a secret board with a public board, the privacy settings of the destination board will apply

Can You Merge Pinterest Board Sections?

It is completely possible to merge sections within a board! The steps are somewhat the same as well as how you would merge a Pinterest board.

  1. Click the board you want to merge sections in to open it
  2. Choose the section you want to merge and click the three dots beside the section name.
  3. Select Merge
  4. Select another section that you want to move your pins to.
  5. You will see another popup and just click “Merge Sections”

What is the benefit of merging boards?

Why even do you want to merge specific boards anyways? Does it boost your Pinterest account in any way? Well, personally, here are some benefits that I see in merging boards and exactly why I do it as well:

Account Organization

Merging boards will definitely make your account or board section look cleaner and more organized. This means Pinterest users or even yourself won’t have to scroll endless hours just to get to the board you are trying to look for. This would also improve your followers’ user experience on your Pinterest profile.

Retain User Attention

I don’t know about you but when I see that there are more things to click on or discover within a certain page, I really go and explore what they are offering. This is the same with Pinterest boards with sections on them. Will you not be curious about what kind of pins are on its different sections?

Is it necessary to merge boards?

If you are asking if it is necessary to merge boards if you want to move pins from one board to another, then the answer is no, it is not necessary and definitely not the only great way you can move pins to another board.

If you are still not sure if you want to merge boards, then here is how I would recommend you move individual pins or a number of pins to different boards from Pinterest themselves:

Move a single pin to another board

  1. Log into your Pinterest account
  2. Click your profile picture at the top-right corner of your screen to open your profile
  3. Click one of your boards to open it
  4. Click  the edit icon at the left-corner of the Pin you want to move
  5. Click  the arrow down icon next to Board or Section to select the board or section you want to move the Pin to
  6. Click Save

Move Pins in bulk

  1. Log into your Pinterest account
  2. Click your profile picture at the top-right corner of your screen to open your profile
  3. Click one of your boards to open it
  4. Click Organize at the top of your board
  5. Select all of the Pins you want to move, then click Move at the top of your Pins
  6. Click Save next to the name of the board you want to move the Pins to

Warnings about merging boards

Though there are a lot of beneficial reasons why you want to merge your boards, it would be best to be aware of some restrictions when you are merging boards.

First is if you are a Tailwind user and you use the platform consistently to schedule pins. Tailwind does not allow you to save or schedule pins to sections – only to the parent board. So in this sense, merged boards with sections in them would make no sense or is not relevant to your Pinterest account.

Another thing to note is that if you merge a secret board with a public board, the privacy settings of the destination board will change. So make sure to know if you are merging a secret board or not.

In terms of SEO or target audience reach, if you are not a regular user but a marketer on Pinterest, you want to make sure that your pins get as many views and chances to rank in Pinterest search as possible.

Before you merge a board, it is important to know that you cannot undo a merge. You will need to create a new Pinterest board or section and move the Pins back there, one by one.

And from the Pinterest SEO point of view, keywords in section titles are less important than board titles, so when you have a lot of content on a particular topic, it’s best to have a separate board for that focus keyword.

This is also where I add to make sure you add a board description to your boards for SEO.
