Healthy coconut desserts

It is without a doubt that coconuts are one of the most versatile, delicious, and nutritious food you can incorporate in your dishes. You can add some coconut on any type of dishes including cooked and raw dishes, beverages, and even desserts! Coconuts are also a perfect pair for other tropical fruits such as mangoes, strawberries, and papayas.

It is one ingredient you should definitely consider because coconuts are a great source of several nutrients including manganese – which is essential for bone health – as well as powerful antioxidants. It is also claimed to boost heart health and promote blood sugar control.

In cooking and baking, there are several types of coconut you can use: coconut flour, coconut sugar, coconut oil, and more. But if you want to add some of that coconut flavors in your dessert, then this is how you can do it:

  • Coconut flour. If you are looking for a healthy and gluten-free alternative for your usual flour, then coconut flour is one of your best choices. It is a high-fiber flour that is slightly sweet and does the job just like the usual flour.
  • Coconut sugar. Coconut sugar somewhat has the same taste as brown sugar so you can definitely drizzle it or mix it with your favorite dessert recipes. And what’s more is that coconut sugar has tons of nutrients in it such as zinc, magnesium, and B vitamins.
  • Coconut meat. The coconut meat is the white part inside of a coconut which you can eat all by itself. But you can also use it in your dessert recipes such as in smoothies. You can also blend it as a coconut yogurt.
  • Coconut syrups and extracts. You can add a drizzle or a few drops of your coconut syrups and extracts in your homemade cakes and pastries.
  • Shredded coconut. Shredded coconuts are basically coconut meat that has been grated or shredded and dried and comes in sweetened and unsweetened versions. This will add an extra sweet and savory flavor when you sprinkle it on top of your muffins, cakes, cookies, and macaroons. You can also toss it on your yogurt, smoothies, and granola bars.

Shredded coconut dessert recipes

Shredded coconut is made in two versions: sweetened and unsweetened. Hence, you can use shredded coconut in almost any type of pastries and desserts. You can use unsweetened shredded coconut in savory dishes or cook it along with your oatmeals or porridges. On the other hand, sweetened coconut is perfect to add in your sweet pastries and desserts. You can sprinkle shredded coconut into your dessert macaroons, cakes, fruit salads, smoothies, cookies, and even on top of your pancakes!
