I’m never the lucky one! In everything I do, I have to work twice as hard as the others and I’m never rewarded as much as I deserve it. Life is so unfair. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon like that guy on a Ferrari, he is not smarter than me he was just lucky. Nothing good will ever happen to me no matter how hard I try. 

Does this sound familiar? Maybe you sound like this sometimes? And have you ever wondered why you haven’t achieved your goals yet? Well, that’s why! Stop thinking negatively and maybe good things will come to you! 

It could be that you want to have your own business, start your own blog, or start and make a successful Youtube channel. Yes, there are several factors why this happens but most of the time, everything will start with you – how you make your decisions, and how you set your mindset. 


People who are insecure or have a negative mentality are most likely to fail. It’s difficult to persuade others to invest in your business or convince people to buy your products if you yourself lack optimism and confidence. 

Successful people know what they want and work hard to achieve it. They are always honing their skills. Their mindset pushes them forward and motivates them to keep going. And how do you have this kind of mindset, you ask? Well, I have here 10 powerful ways on how you can develop your mindset for success.

10 Ways To Develop Your Mindset For Success

1. Step outside your bubble 

In other words: Put yourself in challenging situations. You gain confidence when overcoming challenges, and you learn and grow while you fail. So, this is a win-win situation here. With this, if you are offered a new challenge, then accept it. Volunteer in new projects or activities that will help harness your skill and knowledge. Talk to new people and gain new connections. 

2. Think that there is NO failure

People who always have negative thoughts or constantly think that they are set to fail will most likely will. Instead, think of this: if you succeed, then that’s good. You will be proud of yourself and will keep going. But if you fail, then you should still be proud of yourself and keep going because you at least learned a new lesson. 

3. Don’t Stop Learning

A successful person continues to grow. They also find new things to learn and new ways how to be an expert in their craft. Especially in today’s era, where everything is online, you must be able to keep up with the latest news and trends. Things change too quickly so you have to be on track especially if you are an online business and you have your own social media channels. For example, I have a Youtube channel and typically I would create long-form videos but apparently, people also like short videos. Short formats gained popularity on Tiktok and Instagram, and now Youtube is pushing shorts in the algorithm to keep up with what people want.

As a content creator, I found it quite challenging to package my expertise and thoughts in a 30-60 second video format but if I want to grow, I have to find a way to make it work for my channel too.

I’m not a big fan of short videos myself, I don’t even have a Tiktok account but again, I need to come out of my comfort zone and think about the positive outcome. Maybe my first 10 or 20 shorts will not go viral, maybe I feel like it’s a waste of time because my shorts are not getting enough views, and being so short, they don’t monetize as well as longer videos. But I have to push through this moment of self-doubt and keep creating them, maybe my short number 25 will go viral. And if it does, it will be only because of all the lessons I will learn from the first 24 shorts that got crickets. 

4. Set Realistic Goals

Another way to reach your dream is to actually set and identify your goals. What is your end game? What do you want to achieve after all your hard work? If you give yourself vague answers, then you will also have an unclear road ahead. If you can set specific and realistic goals, then I highly suggest you do that. 

To help you with this, I recommend keeping a journal so you can break down your goal and monitor your achievements. An example of a specific and realistic goal is this: “I will have [insert specific amount of money] at the end of the month.” Or, I will be able to move into a bigger house in 2 years”. And if it’s a house, think about it. What are the specific characteristics of the house you are looking for? Imagine it all up to the details like how you’d like your kitchen layout to be. Imagine yourself waking up in that house, having breakfast, going to bed, and so on. If you keep working on this visualization often enough, it will help your brain believe that it’s not just a dream, it’s a very realistic goal. And your brain will be tuned the right way to find you the easiest and the fastest way to achieve that goal.

Also, having some long-term goals such as “I want to be my own boss” or “Being financially free” are good, but you also need more specific and realistic short-term goals. These smaller goals will help you see exactly how will you get to the bigger goals. 

5. Practice Gratitude

Practicing gratitude and just being thankful for every little success you have is especially important in having a clear and powerful mindset. Gratitude helps people in experiencing more pleasant emotions, appreciating wonderful experiences, improving their health, dealing with hardship, and developing great connections. It is simple as this: With a positive mindset comes positive results. 

You can keep a gratitude journal and write what you are grateful for in your every day. I personally just don’t have any spare moment for writing it down, so I developed a habit of thinking about the good things I have in my life right before falling asleep. It helps me forget all the stress of the day and just focus on what really matters – things that we often forget to be thankful for because they are just so integrated into our life. Things like being healthy, being able to walk, play with my daughter, having a roof over our head, having food on the table, and simple joys like a walk in a park on a sunny day.

You can also track there all the challenges you have overcome, how you feel after overcoming them, and how thankful you are. For example, maybe you’ve had some bureaucracy battle that sucked up your energy and stressed you out for weeks. This is pretty common where I live. Seems like the government’s main goal is to make your life more difficult instead of helping you. Let me know in the comments below if things are very similar in your country!

One way to handle this is to focus on how everything is slow or unfair. Another way to handle this is to stay positive during the process and when things are finally done, don’t forget about the gratitude.  You’ll feel better if you instead of being sorrowful about how it was hard, you focus on being thankful for having it all eventually settled in your favor.

6. Surround Yourself With Positive People

Surrounding yourself with bright and positive people is one of the most effective ways to quickly develop your mindset for success. As we, humans, are social species, you will most likely be affected by the way people around you think. So, if you are surrounded by pessimistic people and individuals who always worry that they are not good enough, chances are you will also believe that you are not good enough. 

Having positive and successful people around you will inspire you and give you helpful ways on how to achieve your goal. Make sure that you try your best to maintain a long-lasting and beneficial relationship with them. 

7. Only Compete With Yourself

Have you noticed that as time goes by, people start to rush everything? People always seem to set a deadline on themselves, which in turn, gives too much pressure on them. But here is what you need to know: each of us has our own timeline. Life isn’t a race and you do not have any competitors to reach your goal. 

Do not focus on others’ success too much because you will eventually feel jealous and think that you are not as good as them or not good enough. Instead, focus on yourself and focus on getting better today than you were yesterday. Learn new things each day. And conquer one obstacle at a time – do not be in a rush and overwhelm yourself. 

8. Find Time To Disconnect 

Related to the point I said just now, how will you actually stop yourself from looking at other people’s success? The answer to that is to find time to disconnect. There are several ways to do this: a day without social media or a day for some alone time with yourself. Instead of obsessively scrolling on Instagram or Facebook where you always see posts of your friends or the successful people you know, log out and take a nap instead. You could start doing your hobbies or just simply laze around for a few hours. You will be surprised how this will help your mental and physical health. 

And always remember that to be successful, you have to be healthy. How will you work to achieve your goal if you are always dead tired and unable to function properly?

9. Trust your Instincts 

We are most likely capable of making smart decisions when we trust our instincts. There will be certain scenarios where you will have to rely on your own knowledge and experiences which you can not find in research books or on the internet. Trusting your instincts will also help you grow as an individual by helping you develop self-awareness and confidence. This will also help you become a leader instead of a follower since you will be able to make decisions for yourself and for your own team. 

10. Reward Yourself

Lastly, the most important thing to have and develop your mindset for success is to reward yourself. Do something for yourself so you will be more motivated to do more. Give yourself a reward so you will always have something to look forward to after each challenge you encounter. This could be as simple as dining in your favorite restaurant after a successful meeting. Buying yourself a new bag, or taking a well-deserved vacation when your successful project is complete.
