Elegant Valentine’s day desserts
Once the month of February starts, you already know what’s going to dominate every store and places in your area: lots of pink, red, hearts, and chocolates! And Valentine’s Day is all about sweetness – being with your sweetheart (or with your family) and treating them with sweet desserts! And if you want to do something special for your loved ones aside from simply buying them a bunch of chocolate or Valentine’s day cards from the store, why not create a personal gift and make some homemade Valentine’s desserts? Any of these sweet treats would be the perfect finish to the special day, whether you’re in the mood for chocolate, strawberries, or something else entirely. Here are some tasty and elegant Valentine’s day desserts that are a staple during this day:
- Heart shaped cake. What better way to show love to your sweetheart by giving them your heart?
- Brownies. Stuff your homemade brownies in a heart-shaped box and trust me, it’s going to be better than the store-bought chocolates.
- Red Velvet cake. Red velvet cake is the queen of all layer cakes and definitely a staple during Valentine’s Day.
- Valentine’s Day Heart Sugar Cookies. Send some sweet messages to your loved ones through these creative sugar cookies!
- Tiramisu. A classic romantic dessert perfect for finishing off this romantic day!
- Chocolate truffles. Again, ditch the boxed chocolates this Valentine’s and treat your loved ones to something special made by you! Here’s a very easy Chocolate truffles recipe perfect this Valentine’s:
Ingredients
two 4-ounce quality chocolate bars (226g), finely chopped
2/3 cup (160ml) heavy cream
optional: 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
optional: 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Your chosen toppings: unsweetened cocoa powder, sprinkles, crushed nuts, melted or tempered chocolate
Instructions
Place the chopped chocolate bars in a heat-proof bowl and set aside. Heat the heavy cream until it is simmering and add the butter (if you prefer) to the chocolate and pour the heavy cream evenly on top. Let the warm cream and chocolate sit for about 5 minutes. Add the vanilla extract then stir until the chocolate has completely melted.
Place a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface and refrigerate for about 1 to 2 hours. Pour into a flat shallow dish or a baking pan so the mixture will evenly set. Scoop the set truffle mixture into 2 teaspoon-sized mounds. Cover tightly and store truffles at room temperature for 3-4 days or in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Valentine’s cookies
Valentine’s day is a day where you are free to buy and eat all the sweet treats you can get your hands on. But if your special someone is not really fond of chocolate bars, then why not give them something more special? A Valentine’s day themed cookies made by you! Do not worry, it is not hard as it sounds. Here’s an easy red velvet cookie recipe perfect this Valentine’s day!
Ingredients
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 large egg
1/2 c. cocoa powder
1 12-oz chocolate chips
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. kosher salt
1 c. (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 tsp. red gel paste food coloring
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
Directions
Heat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Using electric mixer on medium speed, beat together butter and sugars until combined. Add egg, food coloring and vanilla and mix until just combined.
Reduce mixer speed to low and add flour mixture until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
Scoop heaping spoonfuls of dough onto prepared sheets, spacing 1½ inches apart.
Bake cookies, rotating positions of pans on racks halfway through, until darker around edges, 9 to 12 minutes total.
Let cool 5 minutes on pans, then slide parchment (and cookies) onto wire rack and let cool at least 5 minutes more before serving.
