Movie Night Snacks

How Do You Make Popcorn At Home?

It is no question that popcorn is what’s usually associated with movie snacks. And if you already have a bunch of movies ready to be watched, all you need now is a nice bowl of flavorful popcorn.

You can always buy a ready-made microwaveable popcorn but a homemade one is definitely more delicious (and fun to make!) since you will be able to measure how much salty and buttery you want it to be based on your taste preferences.

And you do not need to worry because making homemade popcorn is no rocket science! Here is a very easy guide on how you can make popcorn at home for next movie marathon:

Ingredients

Coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil

Popcorn kernels

Butter (optional)

Salt to taste

PROCEDURE:

  • Heat about 2-3 tablespoons of oil in a saucepan on medium-high heat.
  • Put 3 or 4 popcorn kernels into the oil and wait for these to pop.
  • Once the kernel pops, you can add the rest of the popcorn kernels into an even layer. Cover the pot and swirl to coat the kernels in oil. Remove from heat and count for about 30 seconds.
  • Return the pan to the heat and the popcorn should begin popping. Gently shake the pan back and forth.
  • Once the popping slows, remove the pan from the heat and continue to shake the pot for about 30 seconds more or until the popping completely stops.
  • Move the popcorn into a bowl.
  • If you want to add butter, you can easily melt your butter by placing it in the pot you used.
  • Mix the butter in with your popcorn and sprinkle salt to taste.

How Do You Make Healthy Popcorn?

If you want a healthier popcorn, then you can still follow the same procedure but you should definitely stay away from oil and butter. You can air pop your popcorn using no oil at all or you can also use water as an alternative. Before buying your popcorn kernels, you should also be aware of added sweeteners and chemicals so always check the ingredients and nutritional information.
