But being a Disney princess isn’t just about looking beautiful. It’s about creating magical moments for little girls and boys and everyone you meet. 

Whether talking to children, posing for photos and social media posts, or performing in a parade, you’ll be responsible for making sure every guest feels like they’ve stepped into a fairy tale instead of a busy Disney theme park. 

You will also need to learn how to act, move, and speak exactly like your character. If you’re playing Cinderella, for example, you’ll need to be graceful and soft-spoken while mentioning Prince Charming here and there. 

How to become a Disney Princess

Everyone can dress up as their favorite characters, but only a select few can become an official Disney princess as their career path and make young children happy. 

With that said, let’s talk about what Disney looks for in their performers.

Requirements

Disney has specific guidelines to make sure the princesses match their animated characters.

• Height Range: Most Disney princesses need to be young women with a height requirement between 5’4” and 5’7” tall. This keeps the characters looking consistent across parks.
• Appearance: You don’t need to look exactly like a princess, but you should resemble the princess character you’re playing. This includes clear skin, a healthy physique, and features that align with the character’s design.
• Personality: You need to be in the role of a Disney Princess. These iconic characters are kind, warm, and approachable. If you’re naturally friendly and enjoy making people smile, you’re already at an advantage! 
• Acting and Singing: Disney princesses are performers and talented actresses, so acting and sometimes singing are big parts of the job. You’ll need to bring your character to life through your voice, expressions, and movements.

This is so you can feel as if you are Cinderella herself when interacting with the guests.

The role can be demanding. You’ll spend long hours in costume, often in hot or crowded conditions. 

It’s important to take care of yourself by staying hydrated, eating well, and getting enough rest.

Rules to Follow as a Disney Princess

Stay in Character

One of the biggest rules is that you can never break character. From the moment you step into your princess role until you’re out of sight of guests, you are that character. 

Let’s say if you were Ariel, you wouldn’t know what modern technology is. And if you are Belle, you might want to talk about books more.

Also, even if something unexpected happens like a guest asking a tricky question or a kid crying, you have to respond as your character would. It’s all about keeping the magic alive for guests.

Do not share personal info

This is related to the previous point but you can’t share anything about your real life with guests. This includes your name, age, where you’re from, or anything about your life outside the park. 

Everything you say needs to fit your princess’s story. You’re there to talk about castles, magic, and fairy tales – not real-life stuff.

This goes the same for asking for personal info about the guests – do not do it! 

Always look like a Princess

Disney has very strict rules about how princesses should look to keep the magic consistent.

You’ll wear costumes exactly the way they’re designed – no tweaks or personal touches allowed. Makeup has to match your character’s look which they will teach you how to do it yourself. 

If your character doesn’t wear a wig, your own hair will need to fit their style, color, and length.

Another important thing is that any tattoos or unusual piercings need to be covered up or removed while you’re in costume.

Smile for the Camera 

Guests love taking pictures with Disney princesses, but there are rules about how photos and videos are handled. 

Always pose in a way that matches your character’s personality. Don’t allow anything inappropriate in pictures, like rude gestures or questionable poses. 

Be Professional 

Even when you’re not in front of guests, you’re expected to behave professionally. 

That means being polite and respectful to coworkers, following the rules, and avoiding any kind of gossip or negative behavior. If you do any of these, it can get you into trouble or even cost you the role.
