21. Bead Your Own Ornaments with Pipe Cleaner!
Pipe cleaners and craft beads are the perfect duo for keeping kids entertained. Whenever my kids need a fun activity, I grab our stash of these two simple supplies.
They’re easy for little hands to work with, and the beads stay secure on the pipe cleaners. This time, we made adorable Christmas ornaments that bring a touch of homemade charm to our tree. Here’s how we did it:
For the Star:
Start by sliding yellow beads onto a yellow pipe cleaner, leaving a bit of space at each end for twisting. Once the ends are secured, shape the pipe cleaner into a five-point star with your hands.
Use the twisted end as the top point. Attach a small piece of pipe cleaner to the top to create a hook for hanging on the tree.
For the Candy Cane:
Take a red or white pipe cleaner and alternate red and white beads along its length. Leave a little room at both ends, then curl them inward to hold the beads in place.
The curved shape makes the candy cane design, and it’s a great way for kids to practice making patterns while crafting.
For the Ball:
This one is perfect for younger children! Let them string beads of any color onto a pipe cleaner, leaving space at both ends for twisting. Attach a small piece of pipe cleaner to the top to form a hook for hanging.
For smaller balls, you can simply shape the ends into a hook without needing extra pipe cleaner. You can also encourage kids to create patterns for an added educational twist.
For the Tree:
Using a brown pipe cleaner as the base, alternate beads in colors of your choice—green and red work well for a festive look, but any colors can represent “lights” on the tree.
Twist the two ends together and shape the pipe cleaner into a triangle to form the tree. Add a small piece of brown pipe cleaner to the bottom, twisting it securely to create the tree trunk. Shape the trunk into square edges to complete the look.
These ornaments are simple to make, fun for kids, and perfect for adding a personal touch to your Christmas tree. Plus, they’re a great way for little ones to practice fine motor skills and pattern recognition while creating something beautiful!

20. DIY Gingerbread Tree Decorations
If you’re new to sewing, this simple Christmas project is a perfect starting point! No sewing machine is needed—everything can be stitched by hand, making it a beginner-friendly craft.
With just two easy stitches, the whip stitch and back stitch, even kids can join in on the fun. Pop on your favorite Christmas movie, get cozy, and enjoy a festive crafting session as you create adorable gingerbread tree decorations.
Start by attaching the roof, window, curtain, snowman, door, and door window to the front of the house using whip stitch with matching stranded cotton. Use a darker thread and back stitch to add details to the snowman and window.
Finish this step by sewing a button onto the door. Next, attach the roof to the back piece of the house with whip stitch, then pin or clip the two house pieces together, wrong sides facing.
Fold a piece of ribbon in half and tie a knot. Place the knot between the roof layers at the peak of the roof and secure it in place with a pin. Using matching thread, sew the two house layers together with whip stitch, leaving a small gap for stuffing.
Fill the house with toy stuffing to give it shape and texture, then close the gap with whip stitch to finish your decoration. Now you’re ready to hang your handmade gingerbread ornaments on your Christmas tree and enjoy the festive charm they bring!
