Many of my readers spend a lot of time in the kitchen, just like I am. And I’m sure multitasking while your soup is getting ready, is no news for you, right, ladies?
Your kids might be doing homework, helping you in decorating a cake, while you are checking emails or watching your favorite show on YouTube – and all this is happening in the kitchen. This is why so many users are looking for kitchen ideas on a budget, which allow you to use every surface in the workspace the best way while keeping it pretty and stylish.
With that being said, there are many challenges in kitchen design ideas, because traditionally they are quite small and the layouts are also limited by the location of the pipes and exhaust systems in the buildings.
We recently moved to our new home, and while thinking about our kitchen remodeling, I made a collection of DIY kitchen ideas.
Before you start making any changes, it’s important that you know the answers to those three important questions. I hope the photos and examples I found will help you clarify the doubts and move on to your DIY kitchen project.

How to Remodel Kitchen on a Budget
Last year in the summer, I wanted so badly to remodel my kitchen. I had already moved out of my parent’s house and was able to rent an old apartment that was just big enough for a 23-year old single woman like me. But the kitchen was not good. I mean the faucet and everything else worked fine but since the apartment was pretty old, the kitchen wasn’t as aesthetic as I wanted it to be.
And you know me. I love food. Not only do I love to eat but I also love to cook my own. And so, you can expect that I really need a lot of inspiration in the kitchen. And from how my kitchen looked at that time, it just wouldn’t cut it.
I decided that I needed to remodel the kitchen but there was one problem. I didn’t have enough money for it. Or at least I thought I didn’t.
I got some inspiration from a friend and to keep the long story short, I learned that I didn’t need to have lots of money to remodel my kitchen. I just needed to be more creative. Here are some ideas on how to remodel a kitchen on a budget:
- Paint the cabinets
It’ll do a lot of wonders, more than what you think.
- Add some wallpaper to the fridge
Trust me. It will give your kitchen a modern look.
- Change the doors
You would have known that the door could make your kitchen look as if it was newly furnished?
- Update your kitchen floor
Removing the old tiles would definitely cost a lot. What you can do instead is to put new tiles on top of the old ones. It’ll save you lots of money.
Modern Kitchen Ideas for Small Spaces
Now, why should we talk about modern kitchen ideas for small spaces? When I first thought about remodeling my kitchen, I thought that the redesigning would be the same for every kitchen but I was wrong.
If you happen to have a small kitchen, I came up with some modern kitchen ideas for small spaces that you can emulate for your own perusal.
- Minimalist Style
Keep things plain and simple. You don’t need fancy equipment in the kitchen to make it look neat. Having a tone of black and white in the kitchen will do you a lot of good as far as aesthetics is concerned. It also saves you a lot of space in your small kitchen because the faucets and cabinets are sticking to the wall. And as far as the tables and chairs, you will have just enough room for them in your kitchen.
- Reflective Surfaces
This is a fairly simple concept but one that will make your kitchen look grand regardless of its size.
- Ditch the table
If your kitchen has a built-in desk of some sort, you could use that as a table. Admittedly, that’s what I did with my kitchen. It’s perfect for people who live alone.
Kitchen Ideas for Condo
Let me tell you something. I never owned a condo before but I had a friend who has one. And guess which friend she called when she needed to do some remodeling in her kitchen? That’s right – me.
My friend has a thing for art. I wasn’t surprised that she suddenly wanted to do some refurbishing in the kitchen. As a matter of fact, she even mentioned to me that in the future, she wanted to incorporate a similar theme to the rest of her condo unit.
Anyways, we drafted several kitchen ideas for a condo, and here are some of my favorites.
- Wooden Kitchen
Of course, since it’s a condo, the kitchen isn’t really made of wood. Let me explain. The tiles have a wooden design. Even the cabinets are pretty much wooden. To add a bit of taste to the kitchen, you can make the cabinets darker compared to the flooring.
- Marble Kitchen
The cabinets are still wooden but the tabletops are made of marble. The refrigerator is made of steel.
- Lit Up Kitchen
You can try having the cabinets light brown while the tabletops are marble black. It would also be great if you could install two or four small chandeliers to keep the kitchen lit.
Tips on Kitchen Design
We do a lot of things in the kitchen every day. We want it to look good but you’d regret it if you don’t design it in a way that makes it functional.
What if your kitchen looked like one you commonly see in a celebrity’s apartment but you could never get the chairs to be fit besides the tabletops? This could give you a lot of headaches on a day-to-day basis.
So good kitchen design is really important. Here are some of my tips on kitchen design.
- Wide walkways
You don’t want to tiptoe your way into the faucet or the fridge. You want to move freely in your apartment or condo. With that, you really need to take into consideration wide walkways. Take this into account as you start to add cabinets into the kitchen.
- Consider the table tops
Do you like to buy takeouts or do you prefer to cook your meal? I know for a fact that I like to cook mine. Hence, I made sure that my tabletops have a lot of space so that when I am preparing something, I can move freely without bumping my arms into the corner.
- Knives should be near the cooking area
I know some people who store their knives several steps away from the tabletop where they prepare their meal. I get it. Some people enjoy walking around the kitchen. But when it comes to kitchen design, it is important to think about flexibility.
What if you had to hurry out and you needed to prep your meals quicker? If you ask me, the best way to go would be to place the knives exactly where you plan to prepare your meals.
Don’t wave goodbye just yet. We still have a ton of budget kitchen ideas we want to share with you. Below are some of the most unique kitchen ideas you’ll find. These aren’t things you will find anywhere else on the internet because we designed these kitchens ourselves.
How do you make a small kitchen look bigger?
One of the most common approaches to making a small kitchen look bigger is by painting the walls and cabinets in a light color, possibly even the same color. This way your eye will see no boundaries and space will immediately look bigger. Here are some examples of the small kitchens after the cabinets were pained.
Second advice to make a small kitchen look bigger is to incorporate open shelving. Open shelves reduce visual weight and create the illusion of a more expansive space.

What are the different types of kitchen layout?
The one-wall kitchens are typical for lofts, studios, apartments with long and narrow kitchens and other small spaces.
Galley Kitchen Remodel Ideas
This efficient layout is also perfect for smaller spaces as they allow you to use every single inch of the space. The galley kitchens are also called a walk-through because you are supposed to walk between the two parallel countertops.
Kitchens Island Ideas
A kitchen island allows you to add more workspace to a square-type and roomy kitchen. A kitchen island may include a sink to wash dishes, an oven or appliances and cabinetry for storage or a place to eat (with stools).
