What are Pinterest Boards?

Before you go straight to deleting your boards, let’s quickly review what a Pinterest board is. A Pinterest board is a collection of Pinterest Pins (images or videos) that you have saved from within the platform or from other websites.

Once you go to your Pinterest account, you and other Pinterest users will see your entire board list. Each board usually has a topic that can be identified through a board name like “Healthy Recipes” “Home Decor” or “Work From Home Ideas”.

Pinterest boards can also have various purposes including Mood Boards, and boards can also become your portfolio where your clients or customers can look at.

Why Delete a Pinterest Board?

Deleting boards is a great way to declutter your Pinterest profile. But why do Pinterest users delete their boards, first of all? Here is a list of some good possible reasons:

  • The board might be full of old ideas or trends that you’re no longer interested in.
  • You may want to clean up your profile by deleting boards that don’t fit with your current aesthetic or needs.
  • You have a lot of unwanted pins in that certain board and you do not want to manually delete those saved pin.
  • Too many boards can make your Pinterest profile cluttered, making it hard to find the ones you actually use.
  • You may have created secret (private) boards for certain events or projects and no longer need them after the project is done.

Whatever your reason, deleting a Pinterest board is an easy, simple process, and you can always create a new one later if needed.

Scroll through your boards and tap on the one you wish to delete to open it.

Once the board is open, tap the three dots (•••) in the top-right corner of the screen. This will bring up a menu.

What Happens After Deleting a Board

When you delete a board, all the Pins saved to that board will also be deleted. If there are Pins you want to save, make sure to move them to another board before deleting them because there is no way of reviving those pins anymore.

If you’re deleting a secret board, remember that it will be completely removed from your profile, and no one, including you, will be able to access it again.

If you delete group boards or boards you have been collaborating on with others, the board and its content will disappear for everyone who has access. If you don’t want to delete the board for everyone, consider leaving the board instead of deleting it.

If you’re trying to clean up your Pinterest profile but don’t want to lose your Pins, you could simply merge boards or move Pins to other boards instead of deleting them.

Alternatives to Deleting a Pinterest Board

  • Archive the Board: Instead of deleting the board, you can archive it. Archiving hides the board from your profile and stops showing it in searches or suggestions, but you can still access your archived boards if you ever want to. Other Pinterest users will not see it unless you unarchive.
  • Make the Board Secret: If you want to keep the board but don’t want others to see it, you can make it a secret. Only you (and any collaborators) will be able to view your secret boards.
  • If your board is cluttered but contains some Pins you want to keep, consider moving those Pins to another board before deleting the original one.
