Here are some common reasons why people might choose to delete their Pinterest account:

  • Some users may want to delete their personal accounts or old accounts to start fresh with a Pinterest business account. The reason being is that Pinterest business accounts offer additional tools for analytics and marketing, as well as the use of Pinterest ads.
  • Suppose a user’s account has been hacked or they suspect unauthorized access. In that case, they may decide to delete their Pinterest account for security reasons and to protect their personal information and avoid having their personal data leaked or have access to sensitive information.
  • Some people use Pinterest for business purposes, such as driving traffic to a website, gaining an online presence, or promoting products. If your business Pinterest account is no longer a useful platform for your advertising campaigns or marketing strategy, then you might be urged to delete your account as you do not need it anymore.

And you are done! Your Pinterest account is now closed.

Things to note:

If you’re unsure about deleting your account, you can consider deactivating it instead. This will hide your account temporarily without permanently removing your data and content.

You can also delete your account via the Pinterest app using almost the same directions.

What Happens After Deleting a Pinterest Account

Just like any other social media account, deleting your Pinterest account leads to a permanent account deletion but here are more things to expect:

1. Account Deactivation (7 Days)

When you delete your business or personal account, your public profile is immediately deactivated and your account is permanently deleted in 7 days (previously a 14-day window).

During this deactivation period, your profile, boards, and Pins are hidden from the public, meaning no one can see or interact with your account.

If you change your mind before the 7 days are up, log in with your email and password and the Pinterest team will send you a confirmation email with a link to reactivate your account.

2. Deleted Permanently

After the 7-day deletion period, if you haven’t logged back in, your account will be permanently deleted. All of your Pins, boards, and Pinterest content will be lost forever.

Your profile will be completely removed from Pinterest, and other users will no longer see your account or any of your activity – and you will not be able to do any account changes.

Followers, comments, and messages will also be deleted, and any interactions you had with other users (like comments or Pins you shared) will disappear.

Once your account is permanently deleted after 7 days, it cannot be undone. There’s no way to recover the account, Pins, Pinterest boards, or any data.

3. Business Accounts

If you have a business account and have access to Pinterest Analytics or Ad Manager, all of your data, including ads and insights, will also be permanently deleted.

If you have outstanding bills on a business account, you’ll need to clear them before deleting your account. You can clear your outstanding balance by removing your payment information.

Should you Deactivate your Pinterest Account?

If you are too scared to completely close an account on Pinterest, then you may want to try deactivating your account first instead of completely deleting it.

The beauty of deactivating your account is that you can take a pause from Pinterest and reactivate your account later when you want to.

Note that after deactivating your account, your email address and username still remain tied to that account. You will not be able to create a new Pinterest account with that same email address or username.
